Even though I not too involved with Scouting at present, I am passionate about the movement. I do not think there is a better group that develops and invests as much in our youth. My scouting experience as a young boy to man is a very tangible part of who and what I am today. The oppurtunity to be able to give something back and share the wonderful experience of the Cederberg Adventure and the magic of the Cederberg Mountains with strangers who become friends is very fullfilling.
Experience
In 1988 I did the adventure as a participant which was the highlight of my scouting carreer. Amazingly I have staffed on every adventure since then, sometimes in an unofficial capacity. Bases I have staffed on were Survival (2), Goldpanning (2), Mountaineering, Krakadouw (2) and Mountaineering, Sneeuberg (3 including this Adventure).
I have hiked the Cederberg extensively, preferring 3-4 day excursions were one can get really deep into the mountains.
I have just touched a portion of the huge Drakensberg and Heksriver ranges
Table Mountain is an old faithful and familar friend
I am also involved with Mountain Rescue through a group called Table Mountain Rescue, affiliated to Wilderness Search and Rescue.
Quote
I guess I am old enough to have my own quote and favourite thought:
"Friendships forged in Nature and the Mountains are true friendships, and like the mountains withstand the ravages of time and stand strong for our lifetime."
